Vice President of the Ju-Jitsu International Federation and Head of the Department of self-defence for the army, police and the security companies.

In October 2010 in Sofia, Bulgaria was signed an intergovernmental agreement between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Syrian Arab Republic in the field of sport. The sport Ju-Jitsu was included in the Agreement signed by Svilen Neikov – Minister of Physical Education and Sport, and General Mowaffak Joumaa – President of the Syrian General Sports Federation and President of the National Olympic Committee of Syria.

Department - Self-Defence for the Army, Police and Security Companies (Security Self-Defence)

JJIF - Ju-Jitsu International Federation was established in 1977 as a European Union of the national Ju-Jitsu federations. Subsequently, in 1986 it was transformed into an International Federation. At the Federation Congress held on 26th November 2008, Tomo Borissov - President of the Bulgarian Ju-Jitsu Federation was elected Vice President of JJIF. The JJIF Board of Directors paid extremely great attention to the further promotion and mass popularisation of Ju-Jitsu not only as a sport, but also as self-defence techniques on the various continents. At one of its meetings, the Board of the Directors took a decision to establish a special department at JJIF to develop the Ju-Jitsu self-defence techniques, the so-called security self-defence, which can be practically applied in the in the training and the physical preparation of the officers at the army, police, security companies, as well as in the self-defence and enhancing the self-confidence and personal prestige of the children and citizens. As Vice President of JJIF, Tomo Borissov has been authorized to head the newly established Department of self-defence for the army, police and security companies.

On 30th July – 1st August 2010 in the town of Naoussa, Greece, was held a seminar for certification of referees and coaches from the Balkan Ju-Jitsu Federation.

On 28th – 30th May 2010 in Vienna, Austria, were organized the days of the European Ju-Jitsu Championship. At the official opening of the Championship, a demonstration of the new security system was made by Toni Petrov – Chief Instructor at the Police, Bulgaria, and Mihail Nestorov – Instructor at the Police Department, Bulgaria.

On 8th June 2010 in Valencia, Spain, were organized the European Police & Fire Games, including Duo and Fighting competitions. For the first time the sport Ju-Jitsu was established as a sports discipline in the European Police & Fire Games.

On 7th – 9th May 2010, in Madrid, Spain, a Seminar was carried out, in which participate over 70 people from Spain, Germany, Greece, Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Slovenia and Great Britain. At the Seminar 28 referees and 35 instructors obtained certification.

During the IV European Police and Fire Games in Tenerife (07-15 July 2012) Ju-Jitsu competition in the systems Duo, Fighting and Special Defence was organised. Official representatives of the JJIF at the Games in Tenerife were Dr. Tomo Borissov (PhD) - Vice-President of JJIF and Head of the Department of Self Defence for the Army, Police, Security Companies and the Public and Mr. Eusebio Sanchez - International Instructor. Athletes from five countries- Spain, Bulgaria, Russia, Azerbaijan and France participated in the competitions….More


In the period 25 - 31 of August 2012 in Primorsko, Bulgaria, during the Summer Camp organised by the BJJF a 3-day seminar on Special Defence was held. The training was conducted by Dr. Tomo Borissov (PhD) - Vice-President of JJIF and Head of the Department of Self Defence for the Army, Police, Security Companies and the Public, Mr. Eusebio Sanchez - International Instructor, member of the Department and professor at the Police Academy in Madrid, and Mr. Toni Petrov - International Instructor in Police Intervention. The training course was attended by 12 security professionals who successfully passed the examination for homologising the JJIF Dans to the levels of International Police Intervention. In the period November 7 - 11, 2012 in Dakar, Republic of Senegal, the International Ju-Jitsu Federation (JJIF), the Ju-Jitsu African Union, the Senegal Judo Federation of and the Ju-Jitsu Senegalese Association organised a training seminar on Ju-Jitsu and Special Defence with a Ju-Jitsu championship.

In the period November  23 -25,2012  in Athens, Greece a seminar was  held  on special self-defence and police intervention , which was organized by the Greek Ju-jitsu federation under the direction of Anestis Poulikidis- President of the Greek and Balkan Ju-jitsu federation. Also with the presence of the president of the JJIF Panagiotis Theodoropoulos.
